Fires are tragic and often preventable causes of human death. and research shows that 1/3 of fires originate inside buildings. The UK department for local communities indicates that "the main identified causes of death in a fire are the emissions of gases and smoke." These emissions are responsible for 44% of deaths. Another source includes materials that are easily flammable.
Fires also have a significant impact on our economy. According to a recent study, the International Association of Fire Safety and Emergency Services (CTIF) believes that "the overall economic cost of fires is 1% of GNP in most developed countries".
